Our Star Pouch is made of raffia fiber from the raffia palm tree which grows in the Philippines. Raffia harvesting is limited to the months of June to October each year to allow for the regeneration of the branches before next year’s harvest. The leaves of the raffia palm are harvested, split into strips and dried in the sun. The strands are then sorted by color, texture and size. This raffia is then hand woven into sheets. Raffia weaving is one of the oldest crafts of the Bohol region in the Philippines.
Our Star Pouch is embroidered with stars which are done, painstakingly, by hand. Our embroidery is done by women in the comfort of their own home, providing them with a source of income and allowing them to look after their families.
