Hi there! Our #travelwithkayu series continues as we explore Oja with travel writer Dulci Edge, a sleepy town located 2 hours outside of Los Angeles. Here are our recommendations for the perfect weekend away:
Where to Stay
The Ojai Rancho Inn, is a cozy spot with lots of bohemian touches (shibori curtains and smudge sticks) and a pool; essential during the unbearably hot summer months.
For a splurge, check out the recently refreshed Ojai Valley Inn & Spa. The rooms here are luxe and the entire resort is pet-friendly.
Where to Eat
Chief’s Peak (at the Ojai Rancho Motel) is a cozy bar space with a small selection of wine and beer, plus a turntable playing vintage tunes.
Tipple & Ramble is a home shop by day, serving a limited, seasonal menu with live music in the evenings. The patio space is beautiful with cozy couches and tiled tables.
HiHo! Serves up old-fashioned hamburgers, shakes, fries and “sometimes pie” using the best, freshest ingredients like grass-fed beef.
What to Do
Meditation Mount is a wellness center open to the the public with beautiful, sweeping views of the Valley. The garden is a beautiful place to reflect.
The region is known for hiking; Luci’s Trailhead provides a stunning view of the surroundings.
Relax with a Pixie tangerine infused spa treatment at the Ojai Spa (tangerines are native to the area!).
Do a bit of shopping! Dekor & Co has a beautiful assortment of natural cosmetics and unique housewares. Check out Summer Camp for vintage kilim rugs and indigo dyed textiles. In The Field has a perfectly curated mix of special pieces from designers like Ulla Johnson and Mister Freedom, plus a great assortment of hostess gifts.
Wandering the aisles at Bart’s Books
Don’t leave Ojai without checking out Bart’s Books; this open air shop has a wide selection of vintage, hard to find books.
