a journey of craftsmanship
Kayu, which means "wood" in Malay, was inspired by the Jamie Lim's childhood in Southeast Asia, where the region’s incredible craftsmanship left a lasting impression. Founded in 2011, Kayu was created with a commitment to sustainability, responsible manufacturing, and philanthropy.
In a world where convenience often trumps quality—where mass-produced, inexpensive items can be delivered in hours—Kayu believes in the beauty of craftsmanship that honors tradition.
Kayu embraces the philosophy of slow living, working with skilled artisans in the Philippines who weave using age-old techniques, and third-generation sandal makers in Greece, whose craftsmanship is a testament to time. Their hands imbue each piece with artistry.
Kayu’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in the materials used. The brand’s straw is 100% natural, unlike the synthetic alternatives that are prevalent on the market and pollute our ecosystem. The straw is harvested, dyed, and woven by hand, preserving the integrity of nature. Additionally, the leather used in Kayu’s sandals is vegetable-tanned, free from harmful chemicals, and crafted with respect for the environment.
As Kayu enters another decade of creating timeless pieces, the brand remains dedicated to making conscious choices for a better, more sustainable future.

"For me, true beauty lies in the details—crafted by hand, shaped by time, and designed to endure." - jamie lim.
