In honor of Plastic Free July, we wanted to share with you some simple ways to reduce your plastic use. The idea of eliminating plastic from your life may sound daunting but the key is to start small and in a way that works with your current lifestyle. These are products we use regularly and that are easily available online at a variety of stores.
Not only is plastic bad for the environment, many plastic storage containers contain BPA which can seep into your food or beverages. We love these glass containers which come in a set of four sizes and feature sustainable bamboo lids. They are microwave, dishwasher and freezer safe and completely non-toxic.
Reusable Bee’s Wrap
Did you know that every year the average person uses 540 plastic baggies once? Reduce your plastic waste by wrapping your sandwich with a reusable wrap made of organic cotton, beeswax, organic jojoba oil and tree resin. We love using them for school lunches, storing food and wrapping leftovers.
Wool Dryer Balls
Those dryer sheets are sneaky and are actually a single use plastic that once tossed remain in the earth forever. Not only that, they contain toxic chemicals that stick to your clothes and skin. Skip the sheets and replace them with these dryer balls made of 100% wool. They are fragrance free, hypoallergenic and reusable.
Bamboo Facial Rounds
These facial rounds are made from natural bamboo fabric and are suitable for most skin types. They are small, portable and can be easily tossed into it’s accompanying zipper bag together with your laundry.
The best thing about them? They can be used over and over and eliminate the use of wasteful cotton balls.
Over 500 millions plastic straws are used by Americans daily, most of which end up in our oceans, polluting our water and harming marine life. Do without a straw or replace them with this natural bamboo alternative. They come in a drawstring bag so you can easily toss them in your bag and will biodegrade after use.
If you don’t already have a reusable water bottle we can’t recommend the HydroFlask enough. Double wall vacuum insulation keeps your beverage ice cold for up to 24 hours. It’s made of stainless steel and comes with a lifetime warranty.
Ditch those plastic water bottles pronto.
